About This Project
Stimmungsschau analyzes the tone of Germany's most-watched news broadcast — the Tagesschau at 8 PM. The goal: to show how daily reporting reflects public mood. AI models assess the emotional tone of articles and predict how major political groups might respond.
The Motivation
The overall mood in Germany often feels tense. This project looks for patterns in the reporting that might contribute. By evaluating daily Tagesschau content, it identifies which topics trigger strong reactions — and how different political mindsets might interpret the same news.
How It Works
Data Collection
Multiple times a day, the full 8 PM Tagesschau is retrieved via the official API. As Germany's most-watched news broadcast, it offers a consistent, wide-reaching lens on national reporting.
AI Analysis
AI models scan each article in several steps: identifying key topics, determining the emotional tone, and estimating likely reactions from political parties. No human input is involved in the evaluation.
Our Methodology
Each broadcast is processed using AI models trained to detect sentiment, extract key entities, and simulate political perspectives. The system draws on historical data to predict how CDU, SPD, AfD, and the Greens might respond to each article — based on established positions and ideologies.
Visualization
The results are presented in clear, interactive charts. These make it easier to see sentiment shifts, emerging patterns, and how parties might diverge in their views of current events.
Data Exclusions
Some article categories are excluded — like weather or sports — if they don't contribute meaningfully to sentiment or political analysis. These exclusions are regularly reviewed.

AI Prompt Refinement
The analysis prompt used by the AI is fine-tuned regularly. The latest version will be made available to ensure transparency about how conclusions are reached.

Accuracy and Limitations
The analysis is based on AI predictions and long-term political patterns. Like all models, it has limitations. Some topics may trigger unexpected reactions. Interpret results as one of many possible perspectives — not as fact.
Independence
Stimmungsschau operates independently. There is no connection to media companies, parties, or institutions. Funding is private, and no external influence shapes the content or findings.
The Future
The goal is to improve the analysis and expand it to other sources over time. Feedback helps refine the approach and highlight new directions. The focus remains on making complex news more transparent.
